This map, made in collaboration with Jinnan Zhang, monitors active wildfires in the United States. It shows fires by their physical size, and displays age and containment percent.
The timeline orders the fires by age.
The grid view orders fires by their physical footprint.
Zooming in to a fire shows its perimeter.

The fire symbology uses the Firefly style for ArcGIS Online. The basemap is also Firefly.
The source data is the GeoMAC wildfires feed, which itself is a cooperative effort to disseminate daily current wildfire conditions accrued from satellite sensors, eyewitnesses, and all manner of GIS data collection. It is a collaboration between what seems like almost every federal agency.
This is a work in progress and will continue to be updated.
